Data Continuity Group launches Cloud Disaster Recovery as Managed Service

Data Continuity Group (DCG) has announced the launch of its managed cloud-based disaster recovery (CDR) service offering organisations the opportunity to deploy a comprehensive and cost-effective DR plan for their entire IT environment for a fixed monthly fee.

Cost and complexity are two of the main reasons why many organisations fail to put full disaster recovery in place. However, DCG’s new fully managed service allows for the fast and effective recovery of its customers’ data and systems from within its own secure UK cloud and to access it remotely in the event of a disaster or power outage, irrespective of location.

Unlike most other DR services DCG runs a full DR simulation on completion of service implementation and thereafter an annual test to confirm its reliability and robustness during a real disaster. The DCG service is based on EVault technology, which provided DR successfully for many organisations brought down by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

The adoption of cloud-based services for data backup and disaster recovery is on the rise with a recent survey from the Cloud Industry Forum of 250 IT decision makers showing that 51% already had or would be adopting it this year.

DCG’s CDR service eliminates the need for onsite disaster recovery and makes the use of tape back-up redundant. It also significantly reduces the need for space in the data centre, IT infrastructure and resources and enables organisations to adopt the type of disaster recovery strategy only afforded by large enterprises.

Alan Back, director, DCG said: “All organisations should consider migrating to the cloud, especially when it comes to protecting data. The cloud is a natural fit for disaster recovery and we are pleased to be leading the way and be the UK’s first-to-market with a leading CDR solution from EVault.
“In many organisations disaster recovery is considered too expensive and complex but our new CDR service makes it accessible for all applications and types of organisations.

“The ability to quickly and effectively recover data in the event of an emergency is vital to most businesses and the cloud allows for significantly faster recovery times.

“The use of our CDR service removes the manual burden of disaster recovery for many organisations, particularly those that rely on high availability of data to operate.”

DCG’s cloud disaster recovery service is OPEX-based, with minimal requirement for customer capital investment. The service is easy to implement and scalable to meet customers changing data protection requirements. The EVault-enabled service is supported by DCG’s Tier 3 data centres and its 24x7x365 Technical Support Centre. In the event of an emergency declaration, DCG’s team of technical engineers are on hand to manage the full data recovery process.

Commenting on the launch of the new DCG service in the UK, Andrew Brewerton, regional director of EVault EMEA West said: “DCG’s new service takes cloud disaster recovery to a new level in the UK. The cost of traditional tape and disk based recovery means that hot – and sometimes warm – site recovery is often unaffordable for mid-size businesses, even though their data is no less mission-critical than enterprises with larger IT budgets. Cloud disaster recovery, offered through DCG, will allow those companies to invest in hot site disaster-recovery, perhaps for the first time.”
