Roger Keenan, managing director of the London data centre - City Lifeline - comments: “Many of our customers do not have a technical background and will be unfamiliar with the process of choosing a data centre. We wanted to develop a whitepaper that spoke in plain English and clearly laid out the benefits of operating critical equipment from a data centre and the common concerns and misconceptions.”
The whitepaper will look to answer questions that businesses without technical insight ask when they come to formalise their data management processes. The whitepaper examines whether it is necessary to invest money in building an in-house data centre or whether organisations are better off using external data centre services. It will break down data centre jargon, helping organisations understand what is meant by ‘colocation’ and explain the importance of always-on power supplies and high levels of physical security.
Roger continues: “It’s important to us that our customers feel confident when using our facility and that they feel they’re getting the best service available and the right fit for their needs. We understand that it can be hard for organisations to relinquish an element of control in exchange for resilience, reliability and flexibility and we want to make sure they understand exactly what to expect from moving their operations to an external data centre.”
