COMPRESS works with VDO’s deduplication technology to reduce data storage requirements by up to 35x. REPLICA is a remote file copy service that works in concert with VDO to provide data optimization for content both over the wire and at rest. These new products allow Permabit OEMs to deliver the highest performing, scalable and efficient storage solutions in the market, with minimum investment in time, resources and capital. Combined with VDO, the applications dramatically improve data efficiency for NAS, SAN, Flash, and Object storage solutions for SMB, large enterprise and cloud markets.
“Permabit has already delivered data efficiency technologies to OEMs via the data deduplication and thin provisioning capabilities found in its Albireo VDO solution,” said Dan Iacono, Storage Systems IDC. “By adding integrated products for inline compression and replication into the VDO stack, Permabit will be providing its partners with a comprehensive portfolio of data efficiency and storage services to its partners. This is a smart, evolutionary move by Permabit."
Albireo COMPRESS
COMPRESS compacts unique data seen for the first time. Subsequent copies of that data already stored on disk are deduplicated by VDO without requiring the additional compression step, saving CPU cycles. Good use cases for COMPRESS include databases, backup, user files, and log files.
Albireo REPLICA
REPLICA provides both file replication between VDO-enabled storage devices and remote file copy from any supported device to VDO-enabled storage. The application leverages VDO deduplication to combine efficient data transfer with reduced storage costs. REPLICA is ideally suited for full and incremental backup, offsite disaster recovery and data transfer to the cloud.
“It is exciting to see great traction for Albireo VDO with Cloud, Flash Array, SMB NAS and Data Protection OEMs,” said Tom Cook, Permabit CEO. “Adding COMPRESS and REPLICA to VDO allows OEMs to deliver game-changing value to their customers with the most efficient, scalable and highest performing storage efficiency technologies in the market.”
