Fusion-io has announced breakthrough shared storage performance results achieved in collaboration with Brocade Networks, HP, and QLogic. Featuring Fusion ION Data Accelerator software, the system currently being showcased at HP Discover delivers 24.2 gigabyte-per-second (GB/s) low latency data throughput and more than two million random read data transactions, or IOPS. The system features industry standard solutions and system optimisation software scripts developed by Fusion-io, which are available for free download.
“Software is becoming increasingly critical to delivering breakthrough performance in the datacenter,” said Afshin Daghi, Fusion-io Vice President of Systems Engineering. “Intelligent software optimisations maximise the potential of high performance, flexible systems based on flash memory platforms. Fusion-io is proud to work with Brocade, HP, and QLogic to deliver high performance shared storage not only at HP Discover, but also for customers worldwide by making the optimisation scripts available for download to accelerate shared storage performance with ION Data Accelerator.”
This new solution features an HP ProLiant DL980 server hosting an Oracle Database. The database server is networked with a Brocade 6510 16Gb Fibre Channel Switch and QLogic QLE2672 16Gb Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters to three HP ProLiant DL380 Gen8 servers hosting Fusion ION Data Accelerator software and four Fusion Powered 2.4 TB IO Accelerators from HP. Fusion-io engineering developed optimisation scripts to leverage terabytes of shared Fusion ioMemory capacity, the increased throughput of the 16Gb technology from Brocade and QLogic, and the high-capacity HP DL980 Oracle Database host server. This new solution can also help accelerate other industry leading enterprise databases, and the system optimisation scripts also enable enhanced performance in other four and eight processor server systems in Linux environments.
“As a long-time HP solutions provider and leader in high-performance 16Gb Fibre Channel storage solutions, QLogic’s award-winning FlexSuite technology was chosen as the preferred adapter as an initiator and target within this end-to-end 16Gb Fibre Channel shared storage solution," said Amit Vashi, vice president of marketing, Products and Technology Group, QLogic. "This collaborative, industry leading solution from Fusion-io, QLogic, Brocade and HP delivers a high-performance, low latency storage architecture that achieves outstanding software-defined storage performance at a fraction of the cost of legacy hardware systems."
Also demonstrating performance leadership in virtualisation, this week HP ProLiant servers with a shared storage system featuring the ION Data Accelerator achieved number one VMmark 2.5 two-node results across the two-processor, four-processor, and eight-processor server categories. These number one virtualisation benchmark results demonstrate the performance leadership of HP ProLiant servers with the Fusion-io ION Data Accelerator in providing customers with a distinct performance advantage across all their virtualisation business needs.
