Hybrid Cloud for public sector

Extends use of VMware technologies allowing transfer of workloads between connected cloud.

Skyscape Cloud Services Limited, the easy to adopt, easy to use and easy to leave assured cloud services company says that it is leveraging VMware vCloud Connector to enable customers to securely connect their existing virtualised environments to Skyscape’s Assured Cloud Platform for the UK Public Sector. This new capability will give customers the option to scale their available computing capacity up or down according to changes in business demand by utilising Skyscape’s Pan Government Accredited (PGA) cloud as and when required.

With vCloud Connector, VMware’s customers will be able to extend their on-premise networks into Skyscape’s Cloud, ensuring that extra capacity is readily available. For instance, if an application begins to run slowly due to increased activity, Skyscape’s platform will accommodate this burst of activity.

“This is a great step forward for Skyscape as it further demonstrates its ongoing development and innovation to offer customers market-leading cloud services,” said Nick James, Vice President at Capgemini. “The VMware vCloud Connector will enable UK public sector customers to use the cloud in a truly agile, secure and cost effective way, and this is something we genuinely applaud.”

VMware vCloud Connector enables customers to make the most of hybrid cloud computing environments, allowing organisations to quickly and reliably transfer workloads between their connected clouds. During this process, customers can maintain full control over the movement of applications through an easy to use, single pane of glass interface. This new capability will provide VMware vCloud Connector customers with a central management portal, integrated within the customer’s vCenter management consoles, through which they will be able to control their in-house virtualised environment as well as those running in the Skyscape Cloud.

“Our continued use of innovative technologies from VMware helps Skyscape support our customers with fully scalable and flexible services,” commented Simon Hansford, CTO of Skyscape Cloud Services. “Our platform will allow organisations to ‘test the water’, allowing them to expand and burst from their on-premises environments into the cloud. Our range of services are fully Pan Government Accredited up to and including IL3 data, providing our customers and those of our Alliance Partners with assurance and peace of mind that their applications are in the most robust and secure cloud environment possible. Together with VMware, we are committed to working to increase customer confidence helping public sector organisations to realise the many potential benefits of the cloud.”
