Virtustream to double US Cloud capacity

Virtustream, Inc. plans to double its U.S. cloud capacity by mid 2014. The expansion comes in response to strong demand for the company’s services from prospects and existing clients, as well as demand for new services and expanded capabilities including SAP HANA Managed Services and increased traction in the U.S. federal cloud market. The company also announced plans to add service provider partners in other geographies to further extend its global reach.

Virtustream cites one of the driving factors for this expansion as the strong demand from enterprise clients looking to migrate more of their production applications into the cloud to take advantage of cloud agility and economics. IDC and Gartner estimate that there are currently 85 million traditional enterprises applications in use today, which are expected to grow to 140 million by 2016. These applications were not explicitly written for use in the cloud and enterprise CIOs need cloud computing options for these mission-critical applications, while also being able to support new SaaS/cloud based applications.

This expansion is also reflective of the continued development of the company as a leader in the enterprise class cloud software market. Virtustream recently announced the general availability of their secure hybrid cloud solution, xStreamTM 2.2., a cloud management platform focused on enterprise, government and service provider customers. xStream 2.2 is the industry's first secure hybrid cloud solution (combining both private and public cloud solutions) that delivers the security, efficiency and control required for production and mission-critical applications to run on-premise and/or at leading cloud service providers around the world.

Virtustream is also actively seeking cloud service provider partners in new geographies to add to their global network. xStream’s ability to effectively support legacy applications and modern web-scale applications, combined with the company’s understanding of how national and industry regulations impact compliance needs in different regions make it an ideal solution for service providers looking to expand their portfolio of cloud services. Virtustream recently announced partnerships with Mobily in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and EarthLink in the U.S.

The company currently operates two data centres in the U.S., located in Vienna, Virginia and San Francisco, California and plans to add additional cloud nodes in partner data centres across the U.S. Virtustream also operates data centres in the EU and is planning to expand its cloud nodes leveraging partners in other continents.
