Verne Global says that RMS, the world’s leading catastrophe risk modelling firm, is deploying its RMS Cloud from Verne Global’s data centre campus in Iceland. Powered by the RMS Cloud, RMS(one), the insurance industry’s first real-time exposure and risk management environment, will empower insurers and reinsurers to execute risk modelling, underwriting and portfolio management on a single, open platform hosted in a 100 percent green environment. RMS(one) will leverage Datapipe’s Stratosphere high-performance computing (HPC) green cloud platform for peak loads.
“With RMS(one) running on the RMS Cloud we are giving our customers unprecedented freedom, business agility and competitive advantage by allowing them to execute on their entire exposure and risk management strategies,” said Bobby Soni, chief platform and services officer at RMS. “RMS(one) offers the industry’s first secure, reliable and scalable computing platform coupled with big data infrastructure, which streamlines our customers’ modelling, underwriting and portfolio management processes.”
The growing demand for big data analytics is putting pressure on companies’ HPC infrastructures, requiring organisations to look for locations where power is highly available, with the flexibility needed to handle rapid growth. Datapipe, a top 10 EPA Green Power Partner, chose Verne Global’s 100 percent dual-sourced renewably powered data centre campus as the green cloud node for its Stratosphere HPC platform to ensure that customers, like RMS, have on-demand scalability and reliability as they build out large-scale processing environments.
“Datapipe’s Stratosphere HPC green cloud platform delivers on-demand scalability combined with the power efficiencies of the Verne Global facility,” said Robb Allen, chief executive officer of Datapipe. “As a result, RMS has an infrastructure solution providing the reliability, security, and efficiency required by high performance, big data applications.”
“Data-intensive, power-hungry services like big data analytics and high-performance computing are becoming ideal cloud-based applications as the quality and quantity of data continues to grow,” said Jeff Monroe, chief executive officer of Verne Global. “With aging power grids and rising concerns about the environmental impact of data, Verne Global is thrilled that innovative companies like Datapipe and RMS are tapping into the abundant and available renewable power offered through our data centre campus.”
