Syncsort and Cloudera continue to deliver on

Latest joint engineering efforts yield new capabilities focused on smarter deployment, administration and monitoring with Cloudera Platform for Big Data and Syncsort’s Hadoop ETL and Sort.

Syncsort has announced the integration of its Hadoop ETL and Sort products with the Cloudera Platform for Big Data. A result of the ongoing collaboration between Syncsort and Cloudera - including a number of Apache Hadoop contributors - the integration provides streamlined deployment, administration and monitoring for mutual customers.

“As Hadoop goes mainstream, organisations demand enterprise-class management capabilities,” said Bala Venkatrao, Director of Products, Cloudera. “To address the need, Cloudera Manager, a significant component of the Platform for Big Data, is designed to make administration of Hadoop simple and straightforward, at any scale and to centrally operate the complete Hadoop stack. Syncsort continues to work with us to engineer their market leading Hadoop ETL and Sort products to support and add benefits to our unique, combined value proposition.”

The engineering initiative is part of Syncsort and Cloudera’s broader technology partnership, providing beneficial integration between Syncsort’s DMX-h ETL and Sort Editions with Cloudera Manager. The integration exploits new technology in Cloudera Manager to provide:
· Smarter Deployment and Administration: Single click deployment, installation and updates to Syncsort’s DMX-h ETL Edition and DMX-h Sort Edition from Cloudera Manager via Parcels, a mechanism to simplify software distribution and installation and perform upgrades installed on a cluster with minimal disruption
· Smarter Monitoring: A comprehensive view of clusters, including DMX-h logs to simplify management and streamline problem detection and resolution - all from a single console via Cloudera Manager’s 360 degree activity monitoring capabilities

“Syncsort is committed to ease of use and easy deployment on Hadoop clusters and worked closely with the Cloudera team for Cloudera Manager integration,” said Tendü YoÄurtçu, Vice President, Engineering, Syncsort. “Now, users can take advantage of GUI driven installation and updates of Syncsort’s DMX-h Hadoop ETL and Sort products and single point monitoring of DMX-h job logs directly from Cloudera Manager.”

Cloudera Manager delivers granular visibility into and control over every part of the Hadoop cluster — empowering operators to improve performance, enhance quality of service, increase compliance and reduce administrative costs.

Syncsort’s DMX-h ETL Edition provides a better way to collect, process and distribute mainframe and legacy data in Hadoop with no coding, tuning or specialised skills required. Syncsort’s DMX-h Sort Edition provides a smarter Sort for Hadoop, maximising the return on investment by increasing the scalability and efficiency of every node in the cluster.

The Syncsort Hadoop ETL and Sort integration with Cloudera Manager reflects the strong technology partnership between the two companies. Cloudera was the first to include Syncsort’s recent contribution to the open source community in its CDH distribution. In addition, Syncsort and Cloudera recently announced a joint solution to help organisations bridge the gap between Big Iron and Big Data - a better way to create competitive advantage by exploiting critical mainframe data in Hadoop for Big Data analytics.
