The intermunicipal federation of Lapland Hospital District is made up of 15 Lapland municipalities. Lapland Hospital District, one of the biggest employers in Rovaniemi, uses a total of 120 servers, 1,400 workstations and more than 120 different IT systems.
"The most essential elements of this new solution are its expandability, performance and cost effectiveness. The old system was able to store 80 terabytes of data, but the new system offers 120 terabytes of storage capacity. The functionality and features of the system selected are reflected directly in the quality of the service we provide to patients, which means that the investment was well justified," explains Heikki Ruokanen, Chief Analyst at Lapland Hospital District.
In hospitals, vital data on every patient is accumulated during every visit. Data stored during earlier visits may be needed very quickly in critical situations.
"X-ray images in particular take up a lot of space; no less than one-third of all the storage capacity available. This is why it is important for nursing staff to be able to download images quickly when seeing patients," emphasises Heikki Ruokanen.
