KVM Matrix switches enable dynamic and flexible switching between multiple sources and remote consoles throughout a building or establishment. The Draco tera range of high-performance KVM Matrix switches includes models from 48 up to 288 ports, covering most installations. For very large applications several matrices can be interconnected to increase the number of available ports beyond one single KVM matrix switch. Interconnection of individual matrices enables users to access computers beyond their own local environment, for example in organisations with several buildings on a single site. It also facilitates redundancy and system back-up strategies.
Matrix Grid, a new firmware package enables up to 16 separate Draco tera matrices to be integrated into a virtual super-matrix; even if the individual devices are separated by several kilometres.
Matrix Grid dynamically determines the most efficient path between matrices to make a live connection. The system includes full status monitoring of constituent components and should any unit fail, connections are automatically remade. Operators can access all connected computers within the Matrix Grid from any connected console in real-time. The new technology replaces traditional cascading concepts.
Matrix Grid technology offers significant advantages over traditional unidirectional and hierarchic cascading options that have so far been used to connect multiple matrices. The traditional tree structure, limited to top-down connections, is replaced by a flat network structure allowing the highest level of switching flexibility and free choice of access from any position.
Operation of Matrix Grid is transparent to users. Individual users experience a single matrix switch and do not need to be aware of the substructure of the virtual super-matrix. Matrices can be separated over large distances and located in different buildings. Since each matrix hosts consoles and computers, the dynamic architecture of Matrix Grid makes it possible to access all sources from each workstation, no matter where they are located.
The full range of IHSE KVM products, including the new Matrix Grid technology, will be available for demonstration at ISE in Amsterdam, 4th to 6th February 2014. Stand 10 – P136.
