Venturing down the path to Converged Infrastructure with VCE Vblock Systems using EMC VNX storage, TransAlta, has chosen Wharfedale Technologies (WFT) to be the partner to ensure a successful migration and full virtualization of SAP landscapes. Integration of SAP application with data protection, high availability and disaster recovery capabilities of the converged infrastructure was also implemented. There were multiple landscapes involved and the production cutover downtime demanded minimum impact to the business. WFT senior SAP Basis team deployed various approaches using their own propriety proven migration methodology to optimize the processes and drastically shorten the production downtime.

Leveraging its deep infrastructure and SAP application knowledge, WFT also provided a very comprehensive design covering every aspect of proposed SAP landscape. Michael Moore, TransAlta IT Director stated, “WFT demonstrated very deep skills and knowledge in all aspects of SAP, Virtualization, Converged Infrastructure, Data Protection, High Availability and Disaster Recovery. The process was collaborative, rapid, and painless; which is saying a lot considering all of the complexities SAP implementations entail.”

Michael Moore, further commented, “This brings tremendous value to our organization as it’s created a platform for dramatically improved processes around System Refreshes, High Availability, Data Protection, and Disaster Recovery; all on a simplified infrastructure architecture.”

The results of the migration to the converged infrastructure of the client’s production landscape enabled TransAlta with easy provisioning mechanism to its business teams, improved system performance by 50 percent, and increase reliability and availability for overall SAP solutions.

With increasing number of enterprise SAP users wanting to reduce infrastructure and operational costs, Ganesh Radhakrishnan, CEO at Wharfedale Technologies, stated “we are confident that large-scale SAP landscape migrations as such, can be completed in shorter time periods, with the same level of efficiency and reliability in the future.”

Michael O’Hara, VP, Strategic Alliances, VCE, said, “VCE Vblock Systems provide the performance, agility and efficiency needed to support the demands of business critical applications by pre-integrating, pre-testing and pre-validating the converged infrastructure as a single unit. By combining VCE’s capabilities with WFT’s system expertise, customers like TransAlta are able to quickly benefit from migrating physical applications to a virtualized converged infrastructure.”
