A3CUBE partners with AirBorn

A3CUBE Inc., a developer of communication technologies that extend the capabilities of standard PCIe architecture to produce network and storage solutions, has teamed with AirBorn Inc., a Texas-based designer and provider of innovative, high-reliability electronic manufacturing services, interconnects and value-added solutions for the most demanding environments, to bring a completely new level of performance and reliability to the data center with the first “unbreakable” network interface controller – RONNIEE RIO.

The data center interconnection network is responsible for communication among the computing nodes inside the data center. In a clustered architecture, servers are able to analyze data from connected computers, machines can access shared storage and users are provided access to data through this interconnection network. Its efficiency directly impacts applications’ performance, yet systems today are built using standard components that are not designed to provide mission-critical reliability.

RONNIE RIO is the first network adapter card designed with carrier-grade and military-grade reliability and is designed to bring mission-critical features to the standard data center interconnection network and data plane. RONNIEE RIO provides direct memory-mapped transactions between multiple host systems, extends peer-to-peer communication between PCIe-distributed endpoints and natively encapsulates Ethernet protocol with hardware-based fault tolerance.

“We leveraged our experience in the defense and aerospace industries to develop a connector where extreme speed does not come at the expense of availability and robustness,” said Emad Soubh, Director of New Product Development of AirBorn. “Working with A3CUBE, we were able to produce a high-density, high-bandwidth, high-reliability interconnect adapter card ready for the challenges of the next-generation data center, cloud computing platforms, analytics, storage and converged architectures.”

The combination of military-grade protocol features, quality of service and high availability with an extremely accurate hardware realization permits RONNIEE RIO to bring to the standard data center a completely new level of performance and reliability via the first network interface controller designed to produce an unbreakable interconnection network within a standard clustered environment.

RONNIEE RIO is available in a low-profile PCIe card form factor designed to guarantee maximum availability, military-grade reliability and low-latency capabilities of peer-to-peer operations, RDMA and remote CPUs load and store operations. RONNIEE RIO is the only commercial card with 6 high speed connectors in a low-profile PCIe card form factor that fits in any server ) that permits users to realize 3D Torus. Among the unique characteristics of RONNIEE RIO are advanced quality of service with congestion managed at the link level to provide maximum throughput with minimum end-to-end latency and jitter. It also provides high availability that ensures continued operation with no single point of failure, multiple management hosts and redundant endpoints and links. Robust fault detection and recovery, with hot swappable field replaceable units (FRU) ensures errors are isolated and contained to avoid downtime.

“The data center and networks no longer operate in a 9-to-5 Monday-through-Friday environment with downtime being available for maintenance and upkeep of mission-critical systems,” said Antonella Rubicco, CEO of A3CUBE. “Today’s 24/7 business environment requires network reliability without fail. But until now, connectors used within data centers have been built with commodity hardware. We sought to create something unbreakable; something that would ensure data centers would not go down. RONNIEE RIO provides the necessary military-grade performance and reliability today’s enterprises need.”
