Six Degrees Group (“6DG”), a converged technology infrastructure provider, has selected Zayo to deploy a resilient dark fibre ring in London. The move is the result of 6DG adding diversity to its next generation network and will be completed by the end of 2014.
6DG will connect key points of presence (PoPs) across London using a secure fibre ring provided by Zayo. The diverse ring topology will allow customers to access more PoPs as the company continues to add exchanges to its ecosystem and to provide customers connectivity to Zayo’s extensive fibre network. The unique location of Zayo’s London dark fibre network lends itself to high network availability and security. With over 160 km of fibre already present below London’s streets, dark fibre can be provisioned across the city extremely quickly and cost effectively, without the need for time-consuming digs and road works.
“Data is a significant area of our business as it underpins everything that we do. It is vital that we have resilient infrastructure in place to build our network efficiently and securely,” said Campbell Williams, Group Strategy and Marketing Director, at 6DG. “Zayo was also the only provider covering all the strategic locations we were seeking with the diversity and ability to meet our need for a rapid deployment. We already use Zayo’s fibre in our core network and for some of our customer links, so we are keen to continue building a long term relationship with them as our business grows.”
“6DG has taken a bold step to add additional resiliency and diversity to its fibre infrastructure with this new ring,” said Alastair Kane, European vice-president at Zayo. “We are well positioned to work with companies like 6DG who are looking for critical connectivity, where network downtime is not an option. Our location lends itself to minimal disruption and minimises risk of an outage. We look forward to continuing our relationship with 6DG.”
