Datto has announced the launch of two new solutions that eliminate downtime by taking business continuity into the virtual landscape.

The launch of Datto’s Virtual ALTO appliance and enhanced Virtual SIRIS will extend its channel reach and enable it to become a ‘one-stop shop’ for reliable and comprehensive business continuity.

“Entering the virtual landscape is a natural progression for us,” said Datto Founder and CEO Austin McChord. “The addition of these easy-to-use virtual appliances is a win-win scenario for managed service providers (MSPs), value added resellers (VARs) and IT business owners. As an end-to-end solution, Datto delivers a complete and robust service that not only backs up data in secure settings but also minimises the chances of downtime to nearly zero.”

Unlike other virtual BDR solutions, Virtual SIRIS and Virtual ALTO protect both virtual and physical servers. In addition, they are integrated into Datto’s seamless cloud replication, simplified disaster recovery failover and benefit from the company’s streamlined focus on service and support.

A key facet of the new solutions for MSPs and VARs is the easy-to-use management of all Datto solutions on one interface, reducing the need for training and support on multiple solutions.

Virtual ALTO employs the leading-edge Hybrid Virtualisation feature that was first introduced with the ALTO family of physical appliances. and is designed to run on VSphere Essentials, VSphere Free and Microsoft Hyper-V platforms.

Virtual SIRIS was originally released in March 2014 and has been enhanced to spin up local recovery virtual machines (VMs) instantly, even in the absence of internet connectivity. As with vALTO, behind Virtual SIRIS is Inverse Chain Technology™, Screenshot Backup Verification™, End-to-End Encryption and Instant Virtualisation through connection to the secure Datto cloud.

Steve Troxel, President and CEO of Prencipia Inc, an authorised Datto Partner, said: “Virtual SIRIS enables us to provide backup and business continuity for our customers with complex infrastructures. There is no need for us to train our team to support multiple disparate solutions.”

An additional benefit of Virtual SIRIS and Virtual ALTO is the time-based cloud retention, which takes the guess work out of cloud billing and gives service-providers reliable and stress-free management of end-users’ cloud data.

Dr. Steve Herrod, former CTO of VMware and Datto board member said, “I’m continually impressed with the rapid innovations that Datto is bringing to the Business Continuity market. Virtual ALTO and Virtual SIRIS are the latest examples of great innovation, bringing the robust capabilities of Datto’s physical devices to a virtualized form factor. They’re powerful solutions for businesses and a great offering for MSPs.”
