LeaseWeb selects Equinix for Silicon Valley data centre

LeaseWeb, one of the world’s largest hosting brands with more than 60,000 physical servers under management, is expanding its data center footprint to the United States West Coast. Its subsidiary, LeaseWeb USA Inc., will occupy a business suite inside Equinix Inc.’s (Nasdaq: EQIX) SV3 Silicon Valley facility in San Jose, Calif. to house its data center operations.

With an existing data center presence on the East Coast in Washington D.C., this second United States data center location expands LeaseWeb USA’s hosting services reach and strengthens its product and service offering across the country. The data center expansion adds to LeaseWeb’s global data center footprint, which includes multiple locations in Europe and Asia. LeaseWeb USA plans to further extend its relationship with Equinix throughout the United States with future data center deployments.

From its new Silicon Valley facilities inside the Equinix International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center, LeaseWeb USA initially offers on-demand bare metal hosting solutions. The company will soon expand its West Coast portfolio with its virtual cloud offerings including LeaseWeb Private Cloud - a plug-and-play, flat fee private cloud offering already available on the East Coast, enabling customers to deploy and scale their own Apache CloudStack® based private clouds within minutes.

LeaseWeb USA’s West Coast offering includes a unique connection to a redundant worldwide IP backbone comprised of 52 Points of Presence (PoPs), 33 Internet Exchanges (IXs), and 4.5 Tbps of capacity, which is one of the largest networks of its type in the world.

Equinix Marketplace
With this new relationship, LeaseWeb USA will also leverage Equinix’s Marketplace™, an online community where Equinix customers can showcase products and services for both selling and buying. Through their storefront in Equinix’s Marketplace, LeaseWeb USA will promote and sell the comprehensive LeaseWeb brand portfolio of managed hosting solutions, including bare metal dedicated servers, public cloud, private cloud, hybrid, colocation, and high bandwidth capacity CDN. Additionally, the Marketplace will allow Equinix customers to take advantage of LeaseWeb’s global presence and advanced hosting offerings while supporting their expanding customer base and further growth in the United States.

To facilitate its growth forecast in the U.S. on the East and West Coast, LeaseWeb USA has added engineering and sales staff and almost doubled its overall sales force.

“Through our West Coast expansion, we now have full U.S. coverage providing a good jumping off point into the Asia-Pacific region,” said William Schrader, CEO, LeaseWeb USA Inc. “Many of our East Coast customers have requested to deploy LeaseWeb’s agile and cost-efficient bare metal dedicated servers on the West Coast as well. This agreement with Equinix provides them with expanded options provided by two trusted and global brands within the hosting and data center industries. Our hosting offerings on the West Coast, with high bandwidth and low-latency solutions available, will also cater to the needs of the extensive gaming industry located in Silicon Valley.”

Business ecosystems
“Equinix is a highly reputable company with a long track-record as a data center owner and operator worldwide,” added Schrader. “The strategic relationship with Equinix not only ensures our customers receive secure and reliable data center infrastructure services, it also provides us with extensive channel opportunities by joining their Marketplace and leveraging their vast business ecosystems. This will allow Equinix customers to easily gain access to the high-quality LeaseWeb solutions that are now a simple cross-connect away in the Equinix IBX data centers. We expect to extend and deepen our relationship with Equinix and add more data center sites in the near future.”

“LeaseWeb USA joins an elite set of global companies that selected Equinix for our breadth of services and geographic coverage” said Pete Hayes, Chief Sales Officer at Equinix. “Equinix’s global data center footprint and its extensive presence throughout the United States will contribute to LeaseWeb USA’s plans to rapidly expand their nationwide offerings. By deploying in Equinix’s data centers, they will also be able to take advantage of our established ecosystems and leverage Equinix Marketplace to maximize business potential and broaden customer reach.”

The news follows on from LeaseWeb Asia Pacific’s recent announcement of its launch of a data center operation based in Singapore. The expansion into Asia marks an initial step to deliver LeaseWeb’s cloud infrastructure solutions throughout the Asia Pacific region.
