MapR Technologies has established the standard for high-performance Hadoop with the release of the industry's first benchmark results for big data systems from TPC (Transaction Processing Performance Council). The TPC Express Benchmark(tm) HS results were based on a configuration of the MapR Distribution including Hadoop running on the Cisco Unified Computing System(tm) (UCS).
Cisco is also now reselling the MapR Distribution with Cisco UCS. The agreement includes marketing, sales and training worldwide. Partners can now simply select MapR SKUs from the Cisco Global Price List. The product combination delivers a high-performance, utility-grade Hadoop offering to help businesses transform volumes of data into actionable information.
"The MapR Distribution and Cisco UCS serve as the infrastructure for our cloud-based data services," said Brad Anderson, vice president, big data informatics, Liaison Technologies. "The combined solution provides unparalleled high-performance and reliability that gives us the agility to effectively help our customers leverage massive amounts of data to impact business 'as it happens.'"
"Hadoop has become a mission-critical platform for big data analytics and operational applications," said Jim McHugh, vice president of Cisco Unified Computing System and Data Center Solutions Marketing. "By partnering with MapR, we're combining our powerful product offerings into a joint solution for faster time to value for customers."
Cisco and MapR have set a high performance benchmark on the recently released TPCx-HS benchmark for big data technologies. This new series of tests put comparisons of Hadoop architectures across several dimensions, including overall performance and cost on an equal footing at the level of scale that is appropriate for each unique deployment.
"TPC benchmarks are highly regarded in the industry and we are pleased to establish these high-performance standards for Hadoop," said Jon Posnik, vice president of business development, MapR Technologies. "These results validate the scale, performance and availability of the MapR Distribution. We're already seeing tremendous demand for the combined solution with Cisco to enable utility-grade Hadoop environments."
