Yahoo Japan is one of the largest and most innovative internet providers in Japan, and due to its ongoing success is currently enjoying increased traffic from both residential and business services. This in turn is driving the need for extra capacity between its data center facilities. At these data centers there is a huge number of servers and both space and power are limited, so Transmode's TM-Series solution with its small footprint and low power consumption is ideally suited to the task.
The new deployments provide connectivity between key nodes in the Yahoo Japan network. Yahoo Japan's customers connect into the Yahoo Japan network at these nodes to gain access to services and data hosted within Yahoo Japan's data centers.
Nobuhiro Takasawa, VP, Technical Director, System Management Group at Yahoo Japan, commented, "We were looking for a solution which had a small footprint, low power consumption and which offered flexible design from low to high-capacity and would enable us to dynamically expand network-capacity when required. Transmode's TM-Series met these demands but, most importantly, its Enlighten management system is simple to understand and enables easier day-to day operation."
The solution was selected not only for its small foot print and low power design but also because it was the most cost effective solution, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and reliability. The network deployment has now been in place for some months and its performance has been totally reliable and stable.
Mark Stevens, Transmode's Vice President Asia Pacific, commented, "We are delighted that Yahoo Japan has deployed our TM-Series to connect its data centers. This installation shows how versatile our optical platforms are and that ease of management and low power consumption are vital features of most networks today. Significant credit has to be given to our local partner ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation in securing this business."
