Vivantio’s platform provides a service management solution that is competitively priced, flexible and scalable, allowing their customers to improve service, reduce costs and plan for their future expansion.
Challenges
As a company that has seen considerable growth and developed a worldwide customer base in recent years, data backup plays a significant role for Vivantio as they store terabytes of data.
Before implementing Redstor’s backup solution, Vivantio were using a competing online backup solution. Whilst the technologies are similar in nature, there were some notable challenges that the company was facing with their former provider. In particular, the length of time it took to complete a backup was becoming a concern, with the process becoming inefficient and the company beginning to experience reliability issues.
Technical Director, Andy Walsh, explains,
"When dealing with data and in particular customer data we can't take any chances with the reliability of our backup solution. Also, the length of time it takes to do backups needs to be as short as possible so that we are achieving the shortest Recovery Point Objective (RPO) for our disaster recovery planning if the worst case scenario ever happened outside our normal business continuity processes”
When things do go wrong with a backup solution, the provider’s support is critical. However, as Andy comments, “In past situations, having to deal with support teams that were spread over the US and Europe, we experienced significant delays in terms of response times and consequently the time taken to resolve problems. We realised we needed a provider that could offer timely customer support.”
Solution
Vivantio first met with Redstor in early 2014 when Vivantio Technical Director, Andy Walsh began looking for a new solution to their current data backup offering.
Andy Walsh explains, “Data backup is fundamental to our business so we knew it was an important decision. We started by looking at six different providers and eventually narrowed it down to just two. We had specific criteria that we needed our backup provider to meet. For instance, we have a lot of UK and European customers, which means the offsite data storage needs to comply with geographical requirements.”
Walsh continues, “We wanted a service that wasn’t overly complicated and something that was more intuitive. The speed of the backup process and level of support was also essential as these were two areas we have struggled with in the past.”
Shortly after meeting with Redstor, Vivantio rolled out it’s online backup solution in March 2014 to back up terabytes of critical customer data.
Andy Walsh comments, “Overall, the installation process was very smooth and as we were running Redstor alongside our previous provider to minimise downtime, it took just under a week to fully replace our other solution. The level of support during the implementation process was excellent and when questions did occur, Redstor was on hand to help quickly solve any queries.”
Results
Since rolling out Redstor’s online backup in 2014, Vivantio has been able to successfully back up terabytes of critical data. The most significant improvement that Vivantio has noticed compared to their previous solution is the amount of time it takes to back up the data, which has halved since using Redstor.
Walsh explains, “Since using Redstor we have significantly reduced the backup time and we are now able to complete a full backup within half the time of our previous solution. This has been an obvious improvement on our previous offering and is great for us as backing up customer data effectively and efficiently is a key part of our business disaster recovery planning.”
