Timico is new sponsor of the Cheltenham Gold Cup

Timico Technology Group, the business internet, hosting and communications service provider, is the new sponsor of the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the feature race of The Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse for four days in March.

The high profile sponsor spot for the Cheltenham Gold Cup became available for the first time in 36 years, three weeks ago. As one of the potential sponsors approached by The Jockey Club, Timico saw the opportunity to combine the sponsorship with a unique partnership leading to Timico being given preferred supplier status to The Jockey Club’s portfolio of 15 racecourses.

Timico already provides a range of ICT services to both Goodwood and Newbury independent race courses, encompassing the full suite of services from managed voice and data communications through to guest WiFi and IT solutions.

Timico’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Radford and his family have long been associated with horseracing as owners of frequent runners Knock House, Somersby, Calgary Bay and Racing Demon. Timico’s Chairman, Lord Daresbury, is a former champion amateur jockey. He was Chairman of Aintree Racecourse for 25 years from 1989 and took over as Chair at Haydock Park in 2013.

Tim Radford, Chief Executive Officer of Timico said: “We’re thrilled to have been chosen as the new sponsors of the Cheltenham Gold Cup. As an ambitious business working in a fast-paced industry, we were quick to recognise the tremendous opportunity of partnering with The Jockey Club to be part of one of the country’s most prestigious events.”

Ian Renton, Regional Director of Jockey Club Racecourses South West, commented: “We're delighted to work with a partner who is so keen to use the national platform the Cheltenham Gold Cup offers to become much more widely known as? part of the next stage of their growth strategy and I very much look forward to working with them to ensure that their sponsorship of the Gold Cup proves hugely rewarding.”

Radford continued: “The Cheltenham Gold Cup is the jewel in the crown of British jump racing and we’re very proud to commit to being part of it for the next four years, particularly as Timico is from an industry not typically associated with racing. As a preferred supplier to The Jockey Club’s racecourses we’re hugely excited by the prospect of supporting these already world-renowned venues with the ICT services they need in their quest to diversify into new areas.”
