Dovecot Pro provides a reliable and scalable email backend with fully stateless design to customer installations which have tens of millions of mailboxes and equally high numbers of concurrent users. A long-standing and active member of Dovecot's open source community, Rackspace is upgrading to Dovecot Pro to benefit from its Object Storage Plugin, which connects with Scality?s massively scalable storage solution.
Dovecot is the IMAP server of choice for ISPs, telcos, hosting companies and enterprises worldwide and the recommended email server for leading operating systems, such as, Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu and Apple OSX Server. Known for its high-performance, security, scalability, modularity and ease-of-use, Dovecot has a market share of more than two-thirds (68.49%) of IMAP servers worldwide according to Open Email Survey<http://openemailsurvey.org>.
"Rackspace is an extremely valued and long standing member of the Dovecot open source community, working with us to constantly improve Dovecot's IMAP server offering for the benefit of end-users across the globe" said Timo Sirainen, chief architect and co-founder, Dovecot. "Large email providers are under constant pressure to reliably grow their storage capacity at an affordable price for both themselves and their end-users. By partnering with Dovecot, Rackspace, famous for its fanatical customer support, has tackled this challenge head on."
"By moving to Dovecot Pro and Scality Object Storage, we hope to reduce the number of servers for our email platform to just a fifth of its previous size. This will result in massive cost-savings in upkeep across hardware, electricity and cooling" commented Dan Shain, technical director, Rackspace. "We are planning to do this without any disruption in service and support while improving the reliability and scalability of our email service."
In addition, Dovecot Pro saves up to 50% of the storage capacity needed for full text indexes compared with other open source full text indexes. Dovecot Pro's optimized mailbox format is tuned for fast indexing and searching in order to retrieve the wanted emails in the most efficient way possible.
In 2015, Dovecot became a part of the Open-Xchange family with a shared and deep-rooted commitment to an open source model for delivering trusted applications. Together their aim is to becoming the world's leading provider of open source cloud software for ISP's, telcos, cable companies and cloud providers.
