Neustar and Limelight Networks partner

Neustar and Limelight Networks have formed a relationship that will help give organizations a significant competitive advantage against the serious threat of expanding Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. By combining Neustar’s industry leading DDoS solution SiteProtect with Limelight’s premier content delivery network (CDN), businesses now have the world’s largest, most distributed DDoS mitigation network.

In recent years DDoS attacks have evolved from a novelty used to create a minor nuisance to a stealth weapon capable of crippling an organizations’ mission-critical digital infrastructures. A primary attack strategy follows the theory “just enough is good enough” – if the attacker is able to overrun an organizations’ network capacity by a single unit, its network goes down and opens the door for malware to be planted or for theft to occur. When complete, Neustar’s relationship with Limelight will increase Neustar’s SiteProtect DDoS mitigation network by 10 times its current capacity to 10 Terabits per second. By providing the industry’s best guarantee for uptime during a DDoS attack, Neustar can effectively mitigate this threat while dissuading attacker’s from using this tactic.

“We understand how important it is for our customers to protect critical infrastructure and ensure systems and websites are up and running 24x7,” said Rodney Joffe, Neustar’s Senior Vice President, Distinguished Engineering Fellow, and Head of National Security. “The global scale and stability of the Limelight platform will enable Neustar to outpace attackers and mitigate the world’s largest DDoS attacks with unrivaled performance and minimal disruption.” The Neustar-Limelight relationship enables Neustar’s SiteProtect to operate as an entirely unique, integrated and distributed DDoS mitigation network with 27 in-region DDoS mitigation centers that allows Neustar to absorb attacks as close as possible to the attack source.

In addition, the Neustar-Limelight relationship further strengthens and enhances Neustar’s portfolio of security solutions including its industry leading UltraDNS solution. For example, Neustar UltraDNS customers now have the increased presence of in-region mitigation centers that will allow Neustar to redirect traffic to local scrubbing centers at the edge of the network, closer to the source. Customers’ web traffic can now be “scrubbed” and delivered locally rather than having to be backhauled to a regional scrubbing center that may be partway around the world, which reduces network latency and restores network performance more quickly and effectively.

“This relationship is a strong endorsement of our network strength and commitment to securely delivering Internet traffic around the world. We are very pleased to partner with Neustar and believe that together we will be uniquely suited to transform the DDoS market,” said Joe DePalo, Senior Vice President, Technical Operations at Limelight.
