maincubes modernizes data center in Amsterdam/Schiphol (NL)

Data center operator maincubes will bring the data center recently acquired in April 2016 at Schiphol (Amsterdam Airport) right up to date with an investment in the tens of millions, and simultaneously enlarge the available floor space at the data center.

The location currently has approximately 1,000 square meters of space already in use for the data center, which offers a great deal of expansion potential for additional customers. At full capacity, the data center will provide more than 4,500 square meters of floor space. maincubes will additionally revise and re-install the entire cooling technology. The aim is to achieve a low PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) for both existing and new customers and thus significantly reduce energy costs for cooling. At the same time, the power density per square meter will be increased to between 1.6 and 1.8 kW. This will enable customers to install considerably more IT per square meter for greater efficiency. The redevelopment will be carried out in collaboration with the existing service staff and with technology partners.
"The area around Schiphol Airport is a highly sought-after location for data centers. Our expansion strategy is quite clear: Amsterdam is one of the most important data center locations in Europe along with London and Frankfurt. This is why we also intend to modernize the data center as quickly as possible and make additional space available. Talks with a key tenant (NASDAQ 50 company) have already been scheduled about leasing around 2,100 sq m and 3.5-4 MW of IT load with a tenancy period of over 15 years. This shows very clearly that with the takeover of this data center we made the right move in our European and global expansion strategy," explains Oliver Menzel, the new CEO of maincubes B.V.
