Coupled with the Liebert PDX floor-mounted direct expansion unit, the Liebert EconoPhase module has the ability to transition to a more economical operation – from compressor mode to economiser mode – when the external temperature of a data centre is lower than the internal temperature. This results in significantly improved efficiency which in turn, leads to substantial cost savings. The system is also capable of achieving partial Power Usage Effectiveness (pPUE) levels as low as 1.05, equating to an annual energy cost reduction of more than ˆ200,000 when compared to a pPUE of 1.3 for a 1 MW data centre.
The integrated Liebert iCOM™ Control ensures that the Liebert PDX is able to automatically switch between compressor and economiser operating modes seamlessly and effectively. The intelligent control allows the system to adjust airflow patterns and quickly adapt to changing IT loads. This increases efficiency by optimising component operation for lowest total system power, whilst also maximising freecooling hours through automatic economiser transition control.
Roberto Felisi, product marketing director for thermal management, Emerson Network Power in EMEA said: “This award demonstrates our continued success in delivering leading innovation to our customers. We’ve rigorously tested this product in the US for over four years so it’s fantastic to see its capabilities being recognised to such a high standard also here in Europe. The Liebert PDX with EconoPhase is part of our extensive portfolio and provides our customers with the highest levels of cooling efficiency and substantial cost savings.”
“The DCS Awards recognise the product designers, manufacturers, suppliers and providers operating in the data centre field and are voted for by the readers of our wide range of print and online publications,” said Jason Holloway, director of IT Publishing, Angel Business Communications, organisers of the DCS Awards. “All finalists did well in making the shortlist, but Emerson Network Power was the clear winner in its category, Datacentre Cooling Product of the Year.”
