Lucky number 13 in Amsterdam

Digital Realty's Amsterdam Data Tower in the Science Park will host the 13th AMS-IX Point Of Presence (POP) within Amsterdam.

This will provide unprecedented density, speed and reliability of service within the Netherlands and beyond. Digital Realty’s Amsterdam Data Tower enables companies to connect with more than 200 networks from Amsterdam’s Science Park. This POP is now ready to take orders.

The direct peering between networks is foundational to the ability of AMS-IX to meet the explosive growth of Internet traffic throughout Western Europe. According to Cisco’s VNI Complete Forecast Highlights, by the year 2020, IP Traffic will increase by 20 per cent and Internet traffic by 22 per cent over 2015 figures in Western Europe alone. Since much of this growth is expected to be in high bandwidth video traffic, the 100GB port connectivity offered at Digital Realty’s facility is expected to enhance network performance for customers throughout Western Europe.

“The Dutch digital infrastructure is growing rapidly” says AMS-IX CTO Henk Steenman. “Currently we are located in 12 data centres in and around Amsterdam. By adding this 13th Point of Presence in Digital Realty we increase our diversity of data centres, which is one of our values being a neutral internet exchange.”

Amsterdam Data Tower was designed and built using the latest advanced technologies and offers over 5,000 m2 of data space and 9 MW of customer power. From the Amsterdam Science Park, users become part of a rich ecosystem of telecom organisations, ISPs and cable companies available for connection. Digital Realty’s data centre footprint and high-level quality of service now make it possible for users to strategically pair a “scale” or storage-dense site with an internet gateway in an architecture that maximises both security and performance.

AMS-IX is the leading internet exchange in the world with more than 800 connected parties and a peak of 5 Terabits per second (Tbps) internet traffic. Digital Realty is one of the world’s largest provider of data centre space.
