Okta integrates with Palo Alto Networks Security Platform

Okta has announced integrations with the Palo Alto Networks® Next-Generation Security Platform to provide security across cloud, on-premises and hybrid applications and data centers. Using the Okta Identity Cloud with the Palo Alto Networks platform, organizations can incorporate identity and automatically respond to threat actors to prevent cyber-attacks.

“The security stack must evolve to account for the changing threat landscape, particularly as the proliferation of people, applications and devices only continues to widen and grow,” said Frederic Kerrest, Okta COO and co-founder. “With Okta and Palo Alto Networks technologies working closely together, our joint customers will be able to better manage and secure the vast volume of resources now a part of the extended enterprise, and benefit from monitoring, detecting and alerting to prevent breaches caused by compromised credentials.”

With strong user authentication and backed by Okta’s network, the Okta Identity Cloud also helps organizations improve their security postures through deep integrations with other layers of an organization’s security stack – in this case, Okta at the identity level, Palo Alto Networks at the network, cloud and endpoint – giving customers the ability to automate monitoring, analysis and action against security threats.

Palo Alto Networks introduced new capabilities in its platform operating system version PAN-OS 8.0 to prevent the use of stolen credentials through a policy-based multi-factor authentication framework in the next-generation firewall. Coupled with the Okta integration, these security measures simplify enforcement of a multi-factor authentication policy to stop cyber adversaries from using stolen credentials, moving laterally in a network or accessing sensitive resources.

Recent additional integration efforts between Okta and Palo Alto Networks also now enable Okta administrators and security leaders to automate responses that protect user access to information in the Okta Identity Cloud. Using a powerful combination of data collected by Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewalls and actions triggered from the MineMeld application, Okta users can automate workflows such as terminating a user’s session, prompting for step-up authentication or even suspending the user with the Okta Identity Cloud.

“Credential harvesting is one of the most common tactics for today’s threat actors,” said Terry Ramos, vice president of business development at Palo Alto Networks. “Palo Alto Networks delivers the industry's first multi-method, scalable and automated approach designed to prevent credential-based attacks. Together with Okta, we’re able to provide a unified view of the user and their networks and take action against potential threats.”

By automating security remediation, Okta and Palo Alto Networks customers will be better prepared to prevent cyberattacks – saving security teams’ precious time and stopping threat actors from accessing company information. Customer organizations already using the Okta Adaptive Multi-Factor Authentication and Palo Alto Networks integration, such as MGM Resorts International, will now also be able to better ensure their sensitive information is safe and their businesses are compliant with industry regulations, while providing their users with a seamless user experience.
