New Relic teams with IBM

As more companies turn to the cloud for the agility and innovation it offers, they’re also looking for the highest level of control and visibility into their data as possible: from where it resides to the amount of infrastructure and resources a particular workload may be consuming. To help organizations harness the full potential of cloud with control, IBM and New Relic have joined forces.

New Relic, a fast-growing provider of real-time insights for software-driven businesses, has chosen IBM Cloud to help meet the company’s growing demand across Europe. Specifically, New Relic has selected the IBM Cloud data center in Frankfurt, Germany, to power the New Relic European Region. Expected to be operational later this year, this region will deliver New Relic’s full platform of products to customers.

Choosing IBM Cloud for the high level of data control and security that it offers, New Relic plans to deliver its full suite of products to European companies, and enable them to choose where their application data is stored. The ability to have direct control of where data resides is particularly important to organizations in this region, as the impending data requirements of GDPR will take effect in May of this year.

IBM Cloud will also bring powerful infrastructure to New Relic’s growing European operations, offering New Relic the future opportunity to connect its portfolio into a range of high-value services available on the IBM Cloud, such as AI, advanced analytics and IoT tools. This infrastructure will also equip New Relic with the ability to rapidly ingest, store and process various types of datasets streaming in from across the company’s expanding European client network.

Also as part of this collaboration, IBM will resell the New Relic Platform, enabling IBM clients to include IBM Cloud and New Relic in a single contract. IBM Cloud users can choose to monitor their apps and infrastructure in the public cloud with New Relic tools, or tap into IBM Cloud Application Performance Management tools to manage apps living on-premises or in private and public cloud environments. Additionally, select IBM Cloud services are being instrumented with New Relic. As a result, IBM clients can gain visibility into their operations – from their workloads running on mainframe and distributed architectures to cloud-native apps.

This is another step in IBM’s mission to simplify how enterprises bridge to the cloud, no matter where they are in their journey. This ranges from rapidly migrating existing workloads, modernizing and extending apps, and delivering a full ecosystem of tools to help build successful apps that harness the potential of cloud.

Fine-tuning the performance and consumption of apps is a crucial step for modern enterprises as they turn to the cloud for agility and value over pure cost savings. Through New Relic’s platform or IBM’s existing suite of monitoring services, developers can gain granular and specific intelligence into their app’s operations: including traffic, compute power consumed, and network speed. This visibility enables them to find and fix problems faster, to consume less power on the whole, and to collect real-time feedback to iterate on new features. In turn, teams are positioned to scale their apps faster, deploy them across multiple systems, and run on globally powered infrastructure.

New Relic’s monitoring software will also be available to developers, building on the IBM Cloud, who are looking to transition their apps over to a public cloud model. New Relic provides a critical role in this journey by measuring infrastructure consumption and performance before, during and after migration to the cloud – enabling teams to determine the right mix of public or on-premises resources that are best tailored to a specific app.
