NetApp launches Cloud Volumes Edge Cache

To leverage the flexibility of the cloud with a new and different approach, NetApp introduces NetApp® Cloud Volumes Edge Cache. It's software-as-a-service that reduces risk, protects performance, collaborates consistently, and reduces costs and effort.

It centralizes distributed data in a single, secure, scalable space that's also protected with unlimited cloud backups. In addition to the benefit of a single management point that facilitates data governance, auditing and compliance. And it reduces, at the same time, the overload in management.

The real-time performance of Cloud Volumes Edge Cache defies "latency laws." To achieve this, a small software instance is installed at each location. This provides local visibility into cloud file shares and local caching of frequently used data— Edge instances.

Each instance uses intelligent file caching to keep frequently used data close to users in that location and maintains a secure connection to central storage, using local encryption, compression, and file differentiation to enable secure, smooth, high-speed access to centrally managed data. The result is quick access to important data, with vastly simplified management for IT teams.

Collaborate, collaborate, collaborate

NetApp Cloud Volumes Edge Cache increases the efficiency of highly paid developers, architects, engineers, and other teams who collaborate on project files on a regular basis. And it does this by maintaining a single, trusted cloud version for all files, while caching location-relevant data locally, while maintaining centralized control at all times.

This approach significantly reduces latency, so the distributed template feels like it's always working with a local file server. Cloud Volumes Edge Cache also uses real-time global file locking, to ensure that no team member overwrites another employee's work. The resulting data consistency makes it seem as if everyone is in the same location working from the same file server.

Cloud Volumes Edge Cache's intelligent caching and global file lock provides a significant return on investment, simply making collaborative projects faster and avoiding version control issues.

Reduce cost and effort

Cloud Volumes Edge Cache simplifies the lives of IT professionals, as well as saving businesses money. It takes file servers off budget and reduces time spent on repetitive storage-related management tasks, freeing up time that can be spent on important projects.
