atNorth to open 15MW data centre campus in Helsinki

atNorth strengthens its position as the leading data center operator in the Nordics with its third data center site in strategic location in Helsinki, Finland.

atNorth has reached an agreement to acquire an additional site in Finland that will be converted to a third, state of the art, data centre for the business. The site, acquired from Tallberg Group is located in Sinimäentie, Espoo (greater Helsinki) and is a significant milestone in the company’s overarching goal to scale ahead of increasing demand for high performance computing requirements and to continue to lead data center solutions across the Nordic region.

The site is strategically located in the heart of the digital landscape in Helsinki, will have a total IT capacity of 15 MW initially and will be operational by Q3 2024. As part of atNorth’s continual commitment to sustainable operations, heat reuse systems will ensure that residual heat generated by the data center will be recycled to heat local housing, similar to how their SWE01 data center in Stockholm  heats homes in its vicinity. This aligns to atNorth’s values and continued contribution to circular economy principles in the data center industry. “We are thrilled to be expanding our presence in the Nordics with a third site in Finland” said Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO, atNorth. “With five operational sites across three Nordic countries and two more in development, this acquisition is a critical step in future proofing our offering and supports our goal to continue to be the service provider of choice in the region. As organizations are increasingly seeing the benefits of moving IT workloads to the Nordics, we are committed to extending our services in a sustainable and efficient manner to become the go-to decarbonization platform for today and tomorrow’s global organizations”.

“The FIN02 site is a fantastic addition to our fast-growing portfolio of data center sites across the Nordics” said Stephen Donovan, Chief Development Officer, atNorth. “The site provides access to Helsinki’s thriving technology ecosystem and is ideally located to support the delivery of our high-performance, environmentally responsible, power efficient and cost-effective solutions.”

Finland has excellent digital infrastructure and connectivity, which will be further boosted by forthcoming investments such as the Far North Fiber that will make Finland’s location between Europe and Asia even more strategic. The announcement of the FIN02 site comes off the back of the recent acquisition of two data centers from Advania in Finland, FIN01 and FIN03.The company has recently also announced that experienced data center professional and co-founder of the Finnish Data Centre Association Pekka Järveläinen will take up the position of Sales Director for Finland and will lead the strategic growth in the Finnish market.
