As a mark of the highest distinction for digital infrastructure companies, it comes with the opening of the region's first MDR (Manage Detection Response) OT (operational technology) cyber security operations center (CSOC), which is the only built-for-purpose facility engineered to monitor, detect and mitigate cyber threats on critical infrastructure such as energy and utilities. This innovative center harnesses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and a dedicated team of cybersecurity experts to provide monitoring, detection, and timely crisis support to secure businesses’ operating environment 24/7 and ensure operational continuity.

Mr. Karim Amin, Executive Board Member, Siemens Energy, and Thorbjörn Fors, Senior Vice President, Siemens Energy Asia Pacific, officiated the soft opening of CSOC with honorary guests including General Tan Sri Dato' Sri (Dr.) Haji Zulkifeli Bin Mohd Zin (R), Chairman of CyberSecurity Malaysia.

“We are gratified to have Siemens Energy selecting Malaysia as the location of its first CSOC in Asia Pacific. This comes as a strong first step in putting Malaysia on the map as a regional cybersecurity powerhouse,” says General Tan Sri Dato' Sri (Dr.) Haji Zulkifeli Bin Mohd Zin (R).

"Malaysia is well positioned in the Asia-Pacific region as a regional hub for cybersecurity talent and investment. For the energy transition to succeed, we need to build a more mature energy value chain in the Asia-Pacific region. Developing a resilient cybersecurity landscape is an integral part of this," said Mr. Karim Amin.

Siemens Energy offered its guests an exclusive tour of the CSOC with a demonstration of its proprietary artificial intelligence-based (AI) monitoring platform, Eos.ii, which transforms vast amounts of data into intelligence that then enables human analysts to effectively defend physical and digital assets, for example, evaluating anomalies that may indicate malicious activity.

“We would like to congratulate Siemens Energy on the establishment of its cyber security operations center, here in Malaysia. This represents a strong endorsement of Malaysia’s digital capabilities and capacities as well as being the digital hub of choice in ASEAN for international investors. MDEC will continue to facilitate more expansions into and within Malaysia in raising the overall digital ecosystem value, in line with the new national strategic initiative, Malaysia Digital (MD),” said Ts. Mahadhir Aziz, CEO of MDEC.

Siemens Energy’s collaboration with University Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) aims to equip young local talents with the skillsets and tools necessary to become world-class cybersecurity professionals, ultimately contributing to Malaysia's overall human capital development and building a globally competitive workforce.

With the new CSOC, the company will be able to provide crucial advanced OT cybersecurity services to  customers across the region and beyond , leveraging lessons learned  from across different use cases to continually refine its services further while remaining at the vanguard of cybersecurity trends to protect its customers proactively.

The Siemens Energy Cyber Security Operations Center Asia Pacific is projected to have an investment inflow of more than EUR2 million (RM10 million) in the next 2-3 years and up to EUR3-4 million (RM15-20 million)  over the next 5 years.
