This is the sixth year of the programme, which is run in partnership with Southbank University and is part of the company’s commitment to helping to tackle the well-documented skills shortage in the engineering and Data Centre sector and also getting people back into the workplace.
Since the start of the programme, the company has created a unique learning culture, giving its apprentices the opportunity to express themselves and have their voices heard, whilst ensuring they are involved in every aspect of the BCS business. This includes working across the entire client portfolio supporting and learning from the experienced team and seeing first-hand hyper-scale data centre construction projects from the blueprint stages right through to the delivery. Everything is tailored to support all apprenticeship study requirements.
As part of the of the wider business BCS run an internal Ambassadors Scheme, this run by the Consultants, promotes entrepreneurism, and creates a forum where new ideas can be brought forward to improve how projects are delivered and how the business operates. The Ambassadors scheme is part of BCS’ long-term growth strategy and is open to all apprentices who are accepted on the training programme. The apprentices also play a key role in leading the social and charity aspect of the business.
Fay Visaya, Consultant at BCS, said: “We are passionate about building a learning culture that gives apprentices the opportunity to shine from the outset, with the BCS’ Assistant Training Programme designed to give them the technical (office based) and practical (site based) knowledge, skills, and experience they need whilst supporting their studies. We also find that their fresh thinking, enthusiasm and passion is good for our business as it can reinvigorate the way we look at and approach things.”
Chris Coward, Director of Project Management at BCS, said: “The skills shortage in the industry is still very real and we believe it is vital that we continue to invest in the skillset of the next generation of professionals. Those who are accepted onto this programme can be assured of receiving a rigorous education in construction and engineering that has been carefully developed by the BCS team.”
