In Sweden, Digital Realty has joined a program led by Vattenfall, becoming the first global colocation data center operator to commit to this initiative. The program introduces an innovative solution that provides 24/7 hourly matching of renewable energy consumption and production, ensuring that the energy used by Digital Realty's six data centers across Stockholm is matched with renewable energy production on an hourly basis.
By aligning energy usage with renewable production, this initiative highlights the importance of data center demand as a driver of the broader renewable energy transition. Energy generated by renewable sources are measured hourly, and Digital Realty’s data center consumption is measured by smart meters to facilitate hourly matching of clean energy. The program also gives Digital Realty greater control by choosing the specific renewable energy sources it wants to use and having it matched by Vattenfall on an hourly basis.

In France, Digital Realty has also signed up to a similar initiative with a separate provider, specifically covering 24/7 matching for its PAR1 data center in Paris. This commitment further reinforces the company's dedication to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship globally.
With more than 150 data centers in its global portfolio matched with 100% renewable electricity and more than 1.5 gigawatts of contracted solar and wind capacity – enough to power a small to medium-sized city – Digital Realty continues to demonstrate its dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and powering a greener future.
