RETN, a leading name in global network services, has announced a significant upgrade to its Lithuanian network ring connecting the cities of Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, and Panevėžys. This upgrade marks a vital increase in regional connectivity within Lithuania, extending high-capacity services across these areas, while solidifying Vilnius and Kaunas as critical nodes in RETN’s expansive international network connecting the Baltics with major European hubs.
In collaboration with fiber provider Skaidula and driven by customer demand, RETN has successfully deployed 100G DWDM transponders on key regional routes. This initiative complements the existing Nx100G and Nx400G services available in Vilnius and Kaunas. The enhanced network segments now boast 500G installed capacity, with future prospects to scale up to 1.2Tbps and beyond, aligning with the anticipated demand.
This network enhancement strengthens access across the Baltic region, offering direct routes to border points with Latvia and Poland. Further, it facilitates onward connectivity to major European cities such as Warsaw, Stockholm, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam, among other important locations.
Timur Pertenava, Commercial Director for the Nordic & Baltic region at RETN, emphasized, "Our upgraded infrastructure is designed to support the growing needs of international carriers, cloud providers, and the thriving local unicorn ecosystem." This commitment underscores RETN's dedication to delivering fast, secure, and future-proof connectivity, thereby supporting Lithuania's burgeoning IT sector.
This upgrade is a component of a larger initiative aimed at expanding RETN's IP and DWDM backbone across the region, accommodating the increasing traffic from Lithuania's IT and data hosting domains.
