BIGLOBE enhances global connectivity with DE-CIX Frankfurt peering

BIGLOBE connects to DE-CIX Frankfurt to optimise network performance and latency, enhancing data exchange with European networks.

Japanese Internet service provider BIGLOBE has taken a step in enhancing its network capabilities and global connectivity by partnering with DE-CIX Frankfurt through GlobePEER Remote. This direct peering connection to one of the world's largest Internet Exchanges promises improved latency and overall network performance for BIGLOBE’s customer base, significantly benefitting from enhanced data exchange with European eyeball networks.

As a leading ISP in Japan, BIGLOBE is leveraging the remote peering service from DE-CIX, the renowned Internet Exchange operator, to optimise its intercontinental data traffic. The Tier 2 ISP connects through its existing infrastructure in Tokyo, enabling more efficient data flows across continents.

The strategic move of peering at DE-CIX Frankfurt empowers BIGLOBE to control its data pathways more effectively while minimising latency. As Frank P. Orlowski, Executive Vice President Corporate Development at DE-CIX, explains, the benefits of this remote peering extend across the globe, allowing ISPs to connect optimum data flows irrespective of their physical location.

This collaboration facilitates BIGLOBE in shortening data paths, enhancing service quality, particularly for streaming and cloud-based applications, while simultaneously driving down costs and strengthening network resilience. As Yuichi Minami, Executive Officer/CNO at BIGLOBE, emphasises, this direct connection to European networks is vital for service enhancements.

MEGLOBE's connection to DE-CIX Frankfurt represents a crucial cog in its broader international expansion strategy. Operating with almost 1100 connected networks and handling an extraordinary annual data volume of 45 exabytes, DE-CIX Frankfurt remains an essential Internet Exchange within the global DE-CIX ecosystem, which spans diverse cities including Singapore, New York, Madrid, Dubai, and Frankfurt.

With headquarters in Tokyo, BIGLOBE continues to deliver robust Internet access and network services for businesses and private users alike, aiming to amplify its global service reach. The GlobePEER Remote service enables customers to gain access to other DE-CIX Internet Exchanges without added infrastructure, marking another milestone in BIGLOBE’s transformative journey.
