Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), as Pertamina's Gas Subholding, is forging a path into the future with its low-carbon initiatives, specifically through the innovative development of a biomethane business. Central to this venture is the processing of palm oil mill effluent (POME), tapping into a unique renewable energy potential.

A significant milestone in this venture is the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Neutra DC Singapore Pte. Ltd. (NDSG). Operating within the data centre sector, NDSG is a subsidiary of PT Telkom Data Ekosistem. This collaboration encompasses the supply of renewable gas-based energy through biomethane, primarily to support NDSG's green data centres and contribute towards a sustainable clean energy ecosystem.

“PGN's collaboration with NDSG demonstrates the vast potential for scaling up biomethane distribution while also opening opportunities to create a sustainable clean energy ecosystem that supports national energy transition targets,” said PGN's Director of Strategy and Business Development, Rosa Permata Sari.

PGN's strategy not only mirrors the desire for innovation but also reflects the company's commitment to optimising resources and assets. Under the banner of ‘Step Out’, this strategy aims to solidify their foothold in low-carbon business sectors, making the most of synergies with other Pertamina Subholdings.

Indonesia's inherent agricultural richness positions it as an ideal candidate for developing sustainable solutions such as biomethane. Seen as a "quick-win" in the renewable energy arena, biomethane offers a promising route towards reducing carbon emissions, ultimately aligning with the national goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060.

By 2027, PGN aims to commence biomethane distribution in West Java, leveraging existing infrastructures. This ambitious project invites collaborations from more partners to take collective strategic strides in delivering sustainable value through green energy innovations.
