AVK has committed to a memorandum of understanding with Landmark Power Holdings (LMPH) to craft low-carbon, behind-the-meter power solutions for data centres. This initiative stands at the forefront of efforts to enhance sustainability in an industry known for its high energy demands.

AVK, recognised as the largest supplier of innovative power solutions for data centres across the UK and Europe, continues to push boundaries. By partnering with LMPH, they aim to leverage FLEXPOWER PLUS® technology which transforms conventional gas-fired systems into environmentally friendly, adaptable energy sources.

This groundbreaking collaboration involves incorporating Rolls-Royce's mtu gas engines with ASCO's state-of-the-art carbon capture technology, establishing a reliable supply chain and a robust R&D foundation. With these components at its core, the initiative promises to meet the urgent demand for sustainable power solutions tailored for data centres.

Under a three-year agreement—expandable upon mutual consent—the partners will deploy enhanced mtu gas engines integrated into cutting-edge microgrid systems. These systems are pivotal as global data centres face unprecedented energy demands driven by hyperscale and AI infrastructures. The UK project pipeline showcases the potential growth with plans for a 30MW site in Mill Hill and other developments.

AVK will primarily take the lead in designing, planning, and executing the project while overseeing its maintenance. LMPH brings valuable experience from their 10MW operational peaking plant in Worksop, demonstrating the practical integration of carbon capture with reciprocating mtu engines.

The duo’s venture not only provides an answer to one of the industry's most pressing issues—the decarbonisation of power—but also sets the scene for future innovations in microgrid ecosystems. As projects extend into the European Economic Area, the initiative underscores AVK and LMPH’s commitment to a sustainable future. Both partners are keen on demonstrating that decarbonisation efforts are not theoretical wanderings but tangible solutions with real-world impact.

Through comprehensive, integrated power solutions, AVK and its partners are proving that the journey towards low-carbon energy is well underway, making significant strides in reducing carbon footprints and enhancing the functionality of data centres.
