Quantum Scaling Alliance: Pioneering Scalable Quantum Computing

Leading tech firms unite to unlock the potential of quantum computing, promising transformative industry advancements.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) alongside seven other pioneering tech organisations have formed the Quantum Scaling Alliance. This global initiative aims to make quantum computing scalable and applicable across various industries, promising transformative change.

Dr. Masoud Mohseni of HPE Labs coordinates the alliance, working with eight leading institutions in quantum development. Co-leading the initiative is John Martinis, 2025 Nobel Laureate and current CTO at Qolab. The aim is to design an innovative and cost-efficient quantum supercomputer, benefiting from the combined expertise of supercomputing and semiconductor leaders.

The Quantum Scaling Alliance boasts members excelling in different facets of quantum development:

  • 1QBit: Specialises in quantum error correction and resource estimation.
  • Applied Materials, Inc.: Focused on materials engineering and semiconductor fabrication.
  • HPE: Experts in quantum-HPC integration and software development.
  • Qolab: Concentrates on qubit and circuit design.
  • Quantum Machines: Provides hybrid quantum-classical controls.
  • Riverlane: Dedicated to developing quantum error correction technology.
  • Synopsys: Offers simulation technology and semiconductor IP.
  • University of Wisconsin: Known for quantum algorithms and benchmarks.

John Martinis from Qolab asserts that quantum computers have the potential to revolutionise industries through their capacity to resolve inherently quantum challenges.
By integrating quantum systems, there are possibilities for breakthroughs in sectors ranging from semiconductor production to sustainable agriculture—a feat previously deemed unachievable.

HPE, a forerunner in high-performance computing, partners with the alliance to build scalable, hybrid solutions—harmonising quantum functions with classical computing and cutting-edge networking.
This synergy catalyses advancements in fields like drug discovery, materials science, and secure data processing. The Alliance’s involvement accelerates both scientific and enterprise innovation, ultimately bracing organisations for profound technological shifts—from new acceleration advancements to post-quantum security challenges.

Mohseni sees the alliance as an ambitious venture offering a full-stack solution through broad integration, unlocking previously inaccessible computing potential.
