Alert Logic launches European Security Operations Centre in Cardiff

Alert Logic, provider of Security-as-a-Service for the cloud, has unveiled its state-of-the-art European Security Operations Centre (SOC) in Cardiff, UK. Established to support demand from its rapidly expanding customer base in Europe, the Alert Logic European SOC will be staffed by a team of local security and threat intelligence experts, delivering a fully managed, enterprise-grade service for the Alert Logic suite of network, system and application security technologies, protecting customers through rapid detection and response to cyber threats and other security incidents.

Officially launching the new centre today Welsh Government Economy Minister Edwina Hart said: “I am delighted to welcome Alert Logic to Wales and the technology and expertise they bring. The decision to locate their new European headquarters in Central Cardiff Enterprise Zone sends out a strong clear message that the city is a prime location for technology companies and can offer all the essential elements for growth including a high level skills base and infrastructure.”

“IT teams are not resourced to adequately respond to the marked increase in security and cyber-attack threats,” said Gray Hall, CEO at Alert Logic. “The opening of our new European SOC, coupled with our recently launched UK datacentre, enables us to be closer to our European customers, delivering them continuous protection, and deep security and compliance insight, no matter where their IT resides, whether it’s in the cloud, on-premises or in a hybrid environment.“

With the combination of highly qualified onsite security analysts and Alert Logic’s market-leading technology, the SOC transforms raw security event data into actionable incidents, providing a valuable perspective on global threat activity that dramatically increases the security and compliance posture of any organisation. The Alert Logic Research team will scour various sources of intelligence and analyse multiple threat intelligence feeds in order to deliver comprehensive security content to the Alert Logic Cloud.

Up-to-date security content enables the Alert Logic solutions to eliminate irrelevant events and hone in on those events that warrant investigation by an analyst. Alert Logic’s investment in mining threat intelligence, creating content continuously, and managing content for our customers means organisations are protected at a level few could obtain with their internal IT staff.

“2014 has been a key year for us and our expansion plans, and a fully operational security operations centre to meet the needs of our European customers is another major step forward,” said Gray Hall, CEO at Alert Logic. “While the Alert Logic SOC provides around the clock security monitoring, daily log review, web application firewall management and advanced anomaly detection, the research team is hard at work researching emerging threats, reviewing threat trends and creating new security content that feeds the Alert Logic platform.” Hall concludes.

David Howorth, VP EMEA adds: “Since our initial decision to invest in Wales back in April, we have consistently been impressed with the level of support that we have received from the Welsh Government and the City of Cardiff Council in helping us to establish our operations in the UK. The fact that we have been able to attract and recruit such a large number of highly skilled employees from its initial inception seven months ago, to being fully operational, is testament to the ambitions of the Welsh Government, City of Cardiff Council and the surrounding Universities to cement the region as a UK hub for Cyber security.”

Cllr Phil Bale, Leader of the City of Cardiff Council concludes: “Convincing Alert Logic to establish its European Security Headquarters Operations Centre in Cardiff was a great coup for our Capital City and a testimony to the skills base in the Capital Cardiff Region. We look forward to working with Alert Logic to grow their operations in Cardiff and to further develop the city and its wider region as a centre of excellence for cyber security.”
