Belden acquires Tripwire

Belden has announced an agreement to purchase cybersecurity leader Tripwire for $710M. Belden is a leader in the high quality, end-to-end signal transmission solutions serving enterprise connectivity, industrial and broadcast markets. They’ve been in business 110 years and have a market cap of $3B.

Both Belden and Tripwire are focused on the delivery of technology solutions that support secure, reliable critical infrastructure. Belden has approached this from the operational technology side and Tripwire has approached it from the information technology side. Together the companies will be able to offer businesses a unified view of security risk across the extended enterprise.

Jim Johnson, CEO of Tripwire commented on the acquisition: “This is a bold step into the future and presents a range of exciting new business opportunities for both Tripwire and Belden. The acquisition builds on an existing Belden/Tripwire partnership focused on improving critical infrastructure cybersecurity in manufacturing organizations. The partnership was a wonderful opportunity for both companies to experience first-hand the strengths of our respective products and technology.

“Partnering with Belden will allow us to expand more quickly and effectively into their core markets and this will drive significant revenue for both companies. Cybersecurity the industrial and mission critical infrastructure is behind the commercial market. Together, Tripwire and Belden can deliver proven, reliable technology into this market more effectively than either company alone.”

The acquisition of Tripwire enables Belden to address the growing cybersecurity problem from a broader perspective by delivering a uniform, enterprise-wide view of cybersecurity risk that embraces both information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT). Offering Tripwire’s trusted advanced threat and cybersecurity solutions to the extended enterprise, as well as Belden's core broadcast, industrial and connectivity markets, positions Belden as a leader in the industrial and enterprise ‘Internet of Things’.”
