Phonoscope LightWave deploys Infinera Cloud Xpress

Infinera and Phonoscope LightWave, a fiber-optic network infrastructure company, have given details of LightWave's deployment of the Infinera Cloud Xpress for library and educational institution datacenter interconnect in Houston, Texas. LightWave selected the Cloud Xpress for its hyper-scale density, operational simplicity and low power consumption.

LightWave owns and operates an all fiber-optic network infrastructure offering Ethernet, Internet, dark fiber and VoIP services to businesses, educational institutions, government agencies and carriers in the greater Houston area. LightWave deployed the Infinera Cloud Xpress to support a K-12 education customer with growing bandwidth demands from video and cloud-based applications. Cloud Xpress provides LightWave’s customer with multiple 40 gigabit Ethernet (Gb/E) client-side connections with the ability to scale up to 500 gigabit per second (Gb/s) in the future using Infinera’s Instant Bandwidth™.

The Infinera Cloud Xpress leverages Infinera’s unique photonic integrated circuit technology and is designed to support up to one terabit per second of input and output bandwidth in just two rack units with very low power. With its small form factor and low power consumption, the Cloud Xpress delivers a full 500 Gb/s super-channel of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) line-side bandwidth over 150 kilometres without any need for additional multiplexers or amplifiers. The Cloud Xpress also enables efficient scaling with extremely simple provisioning and open interfaces to plug into existing cloud provisioning systems using open software-defined networking (SDN) application programming interfaces (APIs). Instant Bandwidth allows the activation of WDM capacity in 100 Gb/s increments via a few clicks of a mouse enabling rapid scalability to meet continued customer demands.

“We support a diverse range of customers with growing bandwidth requirements throughout Houston and across the state,” said Rhonda Cumming, President and CEO at Phonoscope LightWave. “By deploying the Infinera Cloud Xpress we can quickly and incrementally provide the service demanded by our customers without significant changes to our network.”

“We are pleased to add Phonoscope LightWave as a new Infinera channel partner to support its customers’ growing bandwidth requirements,” said Bill Jarvis, vice president, Channel Sales for Infinera. “Phonoscope Lightwave's deployment highlights the Cloud Xpress’ ability to meet diverse customer demands, from enterprise, government and education networks all the way to hyper-scale cloud datacenter networks.”
