Optus enhances 5G services with Nokia’s cloud solution

Optus partners with Nokia to enhance 5G services with a cloud-native approach, leveraging hybrid cloud technology for improved voice service resilience in Australia.

Optus is set to deploy Nokia’s cutting-edge Cloud Native Communication Suite (CNCS) to boost its 5G voice services. This move aims to enhance automation, minimise manual tasks, and streamline network activities.

Optus will utilise a hybrid cloud strategy, harnessing Red Hat OpenShift along with the robustness of its Public Cloud capabilities. This agreement marks another successful milestone for Nokia in the Oceania region, notably replacing a previous competitor's technology.

As Australia's second largest telecom operator, Optus is expanding its longstanding collaboration with Nokia. This partnership will see a refreshing of its Voice Platform, enabling the delivery of reliable and efficient 5G voice services to over 10 million Australian customers.

Nokia's IMS platform, known as CNCS, combines cloud-native efficiency with sustainable energy usage, making it ideal for Australia's telecom sector demands.

The CNCS is designed to be containerised and will operate on Red Hat OpenShift, a leading hybrid cloud application platform. This reflects Optus' commitment to leveraging innovative solutions to stay at the forefront of cellular technology.

Raghav Sahgal the President of Cloud and Network Services at Nokia commented, "We are pleased to further expand our Optus collaboration with Nokia’s cloud-native CNCS architecture and accelerate the delivery of new 5G services in multi-cloud environments with intelligent automation and intent-based operations. By simplifying network complexity, CNCS allows operators to respond faster to customer needs and deliver a superior, frictionless experience."

Built with a fully cloud-native architecture, Nokia’s Core Network portfolio facilitates seamless operation of 4G and 5G core functions, providing a powerful framework for operators.
