Empowering AI with secure identity control

Ping Identity introduces “Identity for AI,” extending identity and access control to autonomous enterprise agents with real-time enforcement and governance.

Ping Identity has introduced Identity for AI, extending enterprise identity security to address how AI agents operate across large organisations, with a focus on runtime control and oversight.

Traditional identity management is no longer sufficient on its own. In an agentic enterprise, control at the moment of action is critical, as autonomous agents can have a direct operational impact. Managing identities now requires not only authentication and access, but also governance over what those identities can do in real time.

Identity for AI is built around three core components: Agent IAM Core, Agent Gateway and Agent Detection. Together, they establish agent identities, enforce delegated authority and detect agent activity at runtime, helping ensure actions are carried out within defined parameters and under clear accountability.

The approach emphasises explicit delegation rather than impersonation. Organisations define what AI agents are permitted to do, using continuous and contextual authorisation to ensure agents operate within set permissions, with monitoring supported by capabilities such as Agent Detection in PingOne Protect.

Collaboration across Ping’s partner ecosystem highlights the importance of strong identity frameworks in supporting AI adoption. Treating AI agents as governed digital identities helps organisations address security and governance gaps, maintaining transparency and alignment with enterprise policy.

With Identity for AI, enterprises can:
  • Treat AI agents as distinct identities with defined credentials
  • Use delegated tokens to enforce least privilege instead of human impersonation
  • Secure MCP-based integrations via the Agent Gateway
  • Detect external AI agents using behavioural signals
Agent IAM Core and Agent Gateway support onboarding, management and authorisation of AI agents, while Agent Detection evaluates activity against defined risk policies to maintain a controlled environment.

This development supports organisations deploying AI at scale, with identity governance embedded into how agents operate. Future enhancements are expected to further extend authorisation and oversight capabilities.

By introducing adaptive identity controls for AI agents, Ping Identity extends its approach to secure identity into the evolving landscape of enterprise AI.
